About Us

The Wood family’s love of Devons started with William Deane Wood (grandfather of Ahswood Devons owner, Malcolm Wood) whose very successful Woodbong Stud was located between Stroud Road and Wards River in New South Wales. William Deane Wood had many successes showing his cattle.

Ashwood Devons was started by Malcolm in the early 1990s at his farm in Stroud Road. Ashwood Devons, too, went on to be very successful at shows both in live exhibits and carcase competitions.

After moving to Bulahdelah Malcolm started Ashwood Devons again in 2009 with the purchase of 17 poll heifers in calf from the Bongalabi stud at Lake Bathurst, near Goulburn in New South Wales.

He has since extended that with purchases of both horned and polled female stock from Barnstaple, Spongo and Gundooee, and his first stud bull, Gowan Ross Dogmatic has helped him produce some stunning prize-winning bulls and females, with tremendous successes at both the Sydney Royal and the Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka). The herd has subsequently been expanded both through artificial insemination and by the purchase and breeding of more stud sires.
